This is like pure energy in a drink. In fact after downing
this (to great guffaws of laughter from the kids who thought it extremely funny
that I had a green milk moustache) I was so full of zing that I couldn’t eat my
lunch. In second fact, it’s nearly gym time and I am still rearing to go. Maybe
I was a bit heavy handed with the guarana and the maca and the green tea powder.
Maybe.
I have accumulated a nice little baking tin full of powders
and potions from my travels through wholefoods stores and online herb suppliers,
but by far my favourites are the green powders and the zingy herbs.
When I say green powders I’m talking spirulina, which not makes
your smoothies a dreamy, dreamy blue green, but also supplies readymade energy,
and a whole raft of easily assimilated nutrients including a fair whack of iron.
I also like barley and wheatgrass which alkalise and nourish and I also came
across a nice green tea powder on my travels which supplies polyphenols which
are pretty awesome antioxidants and also enhance alertness and fat metabolism-
just the ticket for early morning!
As far as zingy herbs go, my pick of the bunch is maca- this
stuff finds its way into virtually every smoothie I make. It helps your body
adapt to the stress response, normalises hormones ( great for those with an
attack of the bitch- PMS or menopausal) and promotes a good mood. I also really
love guarana. It’s been pretty played out by its use in energy drinks but it’s
a pretty awesome herb- millions of Brazillians can’t be wrong ( they drink it
instead of coffee!) It contains caffeine so enhances mental alertness and
physical prowess and actually is thought to help with stress relief as well.
Chuck it in!
I also added to this smoothie, the vege to end all veges-
kale- full of nutritional goodness and
my favourite quencher watermelon.
Whats in it?
- ½ watermelon
- 2 handfuls of kale
- ½ avocado
- 1 banana
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup coconut cream
- 1 teaspoon each of spirulina, barley grass, maca, guarana and matcha green tea
How do you make it?
Chuck it in a blender and blend the bejesus out of it- then
Enjoy!
