There really is nothing better than getting out on the great blue yonder and having a wee bit of a fish. In fact I definitely flexed my fishing muscle today and came home with enough snapper and gurnard to feed me and the fam. Awes.
But alas the perfect weather and my unfounded belief that I am part African or something and do not require the sun protection of my peers resulted in a pretty decent sunburn
Just so happened that my uncle had the mint bush to end all mint bushes ( said he feeds it fish bodies) and m.y mummy has a spankin aloe vera plant.
So aloe vera is one of the very best things you can chuck on any kind of burn as it is anti-inflammatory, soothing and also contains a phytochemical called allantoin which stimulates healing. So this means less burn and hopefully a faster tan.
And of course the humble mint- It soothes and cools sunburn and just generally takes the ouch out.
So whats in this spray?
Aloe vera- about 6 decent sized pieces
A jamjar full of mint
1 Tbsn full of apple cider vinegar
10 drops of lavender oil if you have it
How do you do it?
Grab some large aloe bits ( are they called leaves?) and peel the underside off with a knife to reveal the gel. Use a teaspoon to scrape the aloe gel out of the leave.
Add all the gel to a blender.
Cram a jam jar cram full with mint leaves- cover with boiling water, being sure to cover with a saucer to keep all the volatile essential oils in the jar. Steep for 15 minutes.
After it has steeped, sieve and add half a cup to the aloe mixture in the blender.
Add the apple cider vinegar (anti-inflammatory and fixes the skins pH) and the lavender oil ( best oil for burns, soothing and healing) if you have it handy.
Give it a jolly good blend and put into a spray bottle. Chuck it in the fridge and apply as needed.
This stuff most def takes the sting out and I would even hazard to say that it accelerates the healing so you are looking more like a bronzed goddess and less like a lobster a wee bit quicker.
And its as natural as you can get people!
A person who likes being outdoors is always at risk of getting sunburnt. It is a painful experience. Especially when you didn't even realize you were out in the sun that long. Maracuja oil helps to heal the skin quickly.
